Joseph was only 2 years old when she began dancing.

Shahadi used actress Lupita Nyong’o‘s Academy Award acceptance speech in an audition for a school play when she was in 3rd grade and also considers her to be a mentor.

She got her breakthrough as an actress with her role as Young Nala in the Broadway musical adaptation of The Lion King. Shahadi was only 9 years old at the time.
