The first three words of Henry Cavill’s DuJour profile? “Pegging Henry Cavill…” Yeah, no comment! You do you, DuJour! Anyway, Cavill and his terrible haircut cover the new issue of DuJour, all to promote Batman vs. Superman: 2 Fast 2 Batfleck. I’m just now realizing that this movie comes out in March. I guess I thought it was going to be released this summer? So, I was wrong. The release date is March 25, so we’ve got a full month of the Batfleck trying to convince us that he’s not a nanny-banging, mid-life-crisis-having douchebag. And a full month of Cavill saying words. You can read his DuJour profile here. Some highlights:
He wears clip-on bow-ties: “You know those bow ties you just clip on? I was wearing one of those, but what I didn’t realize is that as I was waiting in the line to get photographed, it had started to do this droop—and no one said a word. They all stood there like, ‘Ha-ha, you f–king wanker!’ The moment afterward, I was like, ‘Oh, my God, I’m dying. How many times have I been photographed with a sh–ty little bow tie I’ve been wearing the wrong way?”
Landing a plum role in The Count of Monte Cristo for his first job: “I got a shortcut, and I was lucky; I could have struggled for God knows how long. Maybe having gone to drama school I would have been a far better actor, but who knows?”
Protecting the Superman image: “This is going to sound cheesy, but it’s true. What really matters to me is Superman being represented correctly; protecting the S, that’s essential.”
Being famous versus being an actor: “Do you want to be famous? Then you shouldn’t be an actor. If you’re trying to be famous, you’ve lost before you’ve even begun. You might as well apply for [the reality series] Big Brother.”
Fan encounters: “If people want to take a photo, that’s fine. But they’re going to get a photo of me drunk.”
He doesn’t let fame get to his head: “You’ve got to be worried about this sh-t getting to your head. It’s enormously flattering, but I’m not going to throw all my eggs in that basket.”
He loves playing Fallout 4 & binge-watching TV: “When I’m not working and people haven’t seen me in ages, they’ll say, ‘You’re so lazy, you don’t do anything!’”
He’s not really Superman: “I don’t feel the need to prove myself. If you’re worried about that then you’re worried about the wrong things. I never put that kind of pressure on myself. I’m quite happy doing what I’m doing.”
Take this interview with Cavill’s recent Elle Magazine interview, and I’m starting to believe that he’s like the English version of a typical American bro. He’s into video games, sci-fi, working out and drinking. He likes blonde co-eds. He wears clip-on ties. He’s not an intellectual. Which is fine, because I sometimes feel like we’re being overrun by posh, intellectual English actors, and it’s nice to see someone genuinely blokey and bro-y coming out of England. Of course, the more I realize he’s a total bro, the less I’m interested in him. Sigh…
